Harrods Toy Store

Perftec
Bespoke perforated panels used for the backdrop of the toy department and in the connecting tunnels of the Grade I listed building in Knightsbridge.

The large perforated panels create a visually stunning backdrop for the new toy department in Harrods.

Farshid Moussavi Architecture kept the design simple and eliminated the visual noise of a typical toy store - yet without being boring - to encourage a sharper detection of space.

Throughout several connecting tunnels (which connect the various themed rooms of the store) we layered smaller pitched perforated panels to create a moiré effect.

The panels with the larger perforated hole sizes were all cut so that there was a ‘half hole’ along the edge of each panel to match the next one in line. This required an extremely intricate design and manufacture process to get right.

Wallpaper* Magazine commented that they toy store has been give: “a fresh injection of charm and innovation, constructing a contemporary childhood haven.”
